Travel on a budget

We all have those destinations on our bucket list, or perhaps your goal is to travel to as many places as you can. Unfortunately, holidays can come with a rather costly price tag, but rest assured there are ways to travel on a budget and still have the best time.

Remember, to book your cheap travel to Birmingham airport from Leicester to save on your airport travel costs. It's just £9 one-way, and we can get you there in under and hour.

So, if you're planning your next holiday and are limited with funds, read below for our top ten travelling on a budget tips...

1. Avoid peak travel season

Seems an obvious one, but prices for holidays can double during the school holidays, for a summer holiday you're best to book before June or from September as you'll get a cheaper deal. During this time, the airport should also have quietened down, so you'll also enjoy a stress-free airport experience. At Aircoach, you can rest assured that we do not put our fares up during the peak travel season, we even operate hourly 24 hours a day seven days a week!

2. Public transport

Wherever you're visiting, its handy to research into the local transport links nearby. This is a much more cost-effective way of travelling around a new location - it works particularly well for city breaks as often they have great public transport connections. Heading on a city break? 3. Hotel location

Your best deals with hotels are the ones that are a little further away from top tourist attractions, or beaches. If you don't mind hopping on public transport, or taking a walk, then this is a great option for a budget traveller to save a few pounds off your accommodation booking.

4. Pack light

Avoid overpacking, if you need some tips on packing, visit our handy blog that gives some great tips >> here. It's best to try and avoid check in baggage and stick to the hand luggage limit with your airline provider. Pack light clothes, or fold them down to fit more items in. Taking only hand luggage is also a great way to avoid overpacking, as you're limited to just the essentials.

5. Book in advance

Holiday providers and airlines often have big discounts when you book in advance, the best time can often be January. When you book a few months ahead you've got a great opportunity to make some big savings on your holiday, keeping you within budget.

6. Plane seating

Some airlines charge to be seated with your travel companions, but if you don't mind being separated for a few hours, then make the saving and don't pay for the say seating.

7. Avoid mobile roaming charges

It can cost a real arm and a leg when using your data or making calls abroad. The first step is to always make your network provider aware that you're planning a trip abroad as they may have some good deals for you. You can alternatively, buy a local sim card whilst you're away as it's much cheaper than data roaming. Lastly, try and opt for WIFI where you can, and use social media to make calls or text.

8. Consider hostels or apartments

Consider booking your accommodation separately to keep you within budget. It may take some extra research and digging, but you can often find a much better price this way. A hostel could be a good option if you're travelling with friends and won't be spending much time in your room. Alternatively, you could also all group together and go halves on a cheap apartment.

Extra tip: It's always wise to check the reviews of where you'll be staying before booking!

9. Don't skip on travel insurance

It may seem like a great way to save some money, especially if you're on a tight budget, but in the long run it will save you! In case of an accident whilst you're on holiday you'll be protected from any high medical costs with travel insurance. Of course, we hop you won't have to use it, but it's always peace of mind and best practice to take a policy out. You can find great deals on various comparison sites.

10. Eat outside the tourist hotspots

When we're travelling, a big part of it is trying the local food, especially if you're a big foodie. The top tourist hot spots around the centre are of course the most expensive, but if you venture a little further out you'll find better deals. Most importantly, you'll also find more authentic and traditional foods outside of the tourist hotspots. However, please be cautious and research before you go away. Take a look at reviews and make a list of the places you want to visit to save on searching high and low for something to eat.
